Private Tutoring for All Subjects in NC

Resource Room offers private, individualized tutoring for all subject areas from K – 12. We can work alongside emerging learners all the way through the most challenging high school courses.

Resource Room was founded on the idea that In-person private tutoring offers several benefits compared to other forms of tutoring:

  1. Personalized attention: In-person private tutoring provides individualized attention to the student. The tutor can tailor their teaching methods, pace, and content specifically to the student’s needs, learning style, and areas of improvement. This personalized approach allows for targeted instruction and greater focus on the student’s specific challenges.
  2. Immediate feedback and clarification: With in-person tutoring, students receive immediate feedback on their progress and performance. The tutor can observe the student’s understanding and address any misconceptions or gaps in real time. Students can ask questions and seek clarification on complex concepts or problems immediately, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
  3. Enhanced engagement and motivation: In-person tutoring offers a more interactive and engaging learning experience. Tutors can employ a variety of teaching strategies, such as hands-on activities, visual aids, and discussions, to make the learning process more stimulating and enjoyable. This active engagement can increase student motivation and interest in the subject, improving learning outcomes.
  4. Building rapport and trust: In-person tutoring allows for a face-to-face connection between the tutor and student, creating a supportive and trusting learning environment. The tutor can establish a personal rapport with the student, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and provide emotional support and encouragement. This rapport can enhance the student’s confidence, reduce anxiety, and foster a positive attitude.
  5. Flexibility and adaptability: In-person tutoring offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and adapting to the student’s needs. Tutors can work around the student’s availability and adjust the pace and content of the lessons as necessary. This flexibility allows for a more customized learning experience, accommodating the student’s extracurricular activities, school workload, and individual learning preferences.
  6. Accountability and structure: In-person tutoring provides a structured learning environment and helps instill a sense of accountability in students. Regular sessions with a tutor establish a routine and ensure consistent progress. Tutors can set goals, track the student’s progress, and provide guidance and support to keep them motivated and on track.
  7. Exam preparation and targeted assistance: In-person private tutoring is particularly beneficial for exam preparation. Tutors can focus on specific exam formats, content, and strategies, helping students build confidence and improve their performance in assessments or standardized tests. They can provide targeted assistance in areas where the student needs the most help, maximizing their chances of success.

While online tutoring has become increasingly popular, in-person private tutoring still offers unique advantages in terms of personalized attention, immediate feedback, engagement, rapport, flexibility, accountability, and targeted assistance. These benefits contribute to a more effective and tailored learning experience, helping students achieve their academic goals.

Elementary Level (K-5)

Private tutoring at the elementary level focuses on building solid foundations in both Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Starting at the Kindergarten level students are introduced to primary phonics, number systems, and sight words.

Grades 1 – 2 continue to expand upon the foundations of reading and begin to introduce the basics of addition, subtraction, telling time, counting money, and concepts like pictographs.

Grade 3 is a pivotal year where an introduction of multiplication tables and basic division begins.

Grades 4-5 build on the foundations introduced in the previous grades and add in more complex topics like fractions, decimals, and conceptual/inference-based learning.
For these levels, we work with students to build on the foundations that are introduced to them during their school day, promote confidence, and work to instill a love of learning that will carry through each consecutive grade level. Students who work with us on a consistent basis display increased performance in the classroom on quizzes and exams and begin to develop necessary study skills that help make homework time a smoother more seamless process.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Middle School students are introduced to academic content that is more complex and requires higher order thinking skills. Success at the middle school level is more likely when students enter on or near grade level. Students who need to rebuild basic Math or ELA skills or who are looking to achieve greater academic success will benefit greatly from private tutoring.

High School (Grades 9-12)

The High School Level offers the most complex and diverse course offerings. Students will engage in higher level concepts in ELA, Science, History, and Math.
